Notting Hill is a district within the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, West London. Known for its terraces of large Victorian townhouses and high-end shopping and restaurants.
The area is also known for being a cosmopolitan neighbourhood, hosting the annual Notting Hill Carnival and Portobello Road Market.
The homeowners wanted to use their under pavement vaults as extended storage however wished it remained dry whatever the weather.
Following Renlon’s inspection of the Victorian property, our surveyor identified that there was no evidence of an original damp proof course, this was likely due to the age of the property and external render. Moisture readings were taken with the aid of an electronic moisture meter from the surface of the structural walls, high moisture meter readings were obtained indicating a problem with water ingress.
The project involved basement waterproofing to internal under pavement vaults. This included an installation of a cavity drain membrane system to vault walls and sloping soffits. Cavity drain membrane was also installed to floor areas and dual sump pumps were installed to each vault. The installation of cavity membrane channels water or vapour through the drainage system where it collects in the sump and then pumped away.
Renlon designed a waterproofing system which would allow the home owners vaults to be used as dry extended storage. Our surveyor considered a range of options in order to meet our client’s requirements and had no doubt that the following waterproofing system would provide the best solution for the end user.
