Residential Waterproofing – Pimlico

Cementitious Waterproofing System to under pavement vaults

Pimlico is a small area within the City of Westminster, London. Pimlico is known for its attractive town houses, garden squares and Regency architecture.

In the centre of Pimlico is a grid of residential streets laid down by Thomas Cubitt beginning in 1825, and now protected as the Pimlico Conservation Area. The area has over 350 Grade 2 listed buildings and several Grade 2 listed churches.

Why Renlon were called in

The homeowners contacted Renlon to visit the property and inspect the Victorian under pavement vaults for dampness. Following the inspection, high moisture meter readings were obtained indicating a problem with water ingress. Our surveyor revealed there was no evidence of a previous damp proof course and given the sub ground location, any basement waterproofing solution specified had to protect the basement against the potential risk of future water penetration.

The project involved basement waterproofing to internal under pavement vaults, this included fully hacking off original plaster and a full installation of waterproof tanking to the walls, soffits and floors using Sika – 1 cementitious waterproof render. Sikadur combiflex movement joints were installed at the wall and floor links to absorb possible flexural movement which can sometimes occur at these junctions.

Renlon designed a waterproofing system which would allow the under-pavement vaults to be used as a dry storage space for a vast wine collection. Our surveyor considered a range of options to meet our client’s requirements and had no doubt that the following waterproofing system would provide the best solution for the end user.
